What is a fire risk assessment?

A fire risk assessment is a legal requirement that all employers, building owners and all people with control of a premises must undertake. The assessment must be carried out by a competent person.

A fire risk assessment will identify:

  • Who is at risk from fire
  • The relevant fire legislation
  • The main fire hazards in your premises and preventative measures
  • The adequacy of the escape routes, fire alarm, emergency lighting etc in your buildin
  • Your management policies in relation to evacuation planning, staff training, testing and maintenance procedures etc
