What is a fire risk assessment?
A fire risk assessment is a legal requirement that all employers, building owners and all people with control of a premises must undertake. The assessment must be carried out by a competent person.
A fire risk assessment will identify:
- Who is at risk from fire
- The relevant fire legislation
- The main fire hazards in your premises and preventative measures
- The adequacy of the escape routes, fire alarm, emergency lighting etc in your buildin
- Your management policies in relation to evacuation planning, staff training, testing and maintenance procedures etc
- The assessment will determine the risk to life from fire and will prioritise recommendations to improve the fire safety measures and management of fire safety
